Marriage is a human right. However, some communities had to fight more for it than others. This is where the right to marriage becomes more important than ever. In addition to that, marriage is something that is the solidification of love, and the final destination of genuine affection. Marriage equality is a pressing concern, and there are still various countries where it’s still criminalized. Thanks to radical lobbying and aggressive legislation, many of the countries have already legalized and allowed marriage equality.
Spain:
It had to take Spain years to accept marriage equality. In other words, it’s the country where a majority says that same-sex marriages should be allowed. That means, the LGBTQ community should be allowed to live their lives, and have a right to marry who they want to. This is also followed by Sweden, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain.
Italy and Germany:
This may come as a surprise, but Germany and Italy are the only two countries in Europe that have no protection for same-sex marriages. It’s equally important to mention that the general perception is positive, but the country will have to take some radical steps to ensure the protection of marriage equality. In this regard, educational programs have always been a help.
Canada and Australia:
According to recent researches, the support for marriage equality has decreased. Australia’s rates dropped from 54% in 2013 to 53.4% in 2015. On the other hand, Canada rates also saw a downward. It recorded 63 percent supporting in 2013 and dropped to 62.3%.
United States:
The US is seen as the most supportive of marriage equality. However, this is not the case. According to a recent report, only 48% of US citizens supported same-sex marriage. However, in another survey, the data suggest that sixty percent supports it. IT’s equally important to mention that you may take a while to have full majority support, but the tides are turning all over.
France:
Though France may seem to be a liberal in various parameters, marriage equality has been a bone of contention. In fact, when the laws to legalize it was passed long back, some demonstrations and protestors were against the bill clashed with the police.
Age:
Certain age groups have always been supportive of the struggle. On a general level, people between the age of 16 and 34, are more tolerant. However, the support has been seen less in people age 50-64. However the data changes in Italy where more elders are supportive than those in their thirties or younger age. Whatever may be the reasons for the increase in the age group, one thing is for sure that the fighters are getting their solidarity.
Conclusion:
The legalization of same-sex marriage and marriage equality is the need of the hour. This is the step that everybody has been waiting for. However, that will take some time and will require a radical as well as aggressive lobbying approach.
